  • Thousands of “Well Made Here” products already available in RONA stores and online

    Buying Groups are mobilizing, and RONA appears to be taking the lead by announcing that it has already identified over 6,500 “Well Made Here” accredited products, with another 5,000 on the way. These efforts are being carried out both in its physical stores and online.

    In the coming weeks, RONA also plans to train its in-store employees so that all staff members are better equipped to advise customers on “Well Made Here” products.

    There is upheaval throughout the industry, caused by the American president’s behavior, which is both protectionist and expansionist.

    The blue-banner retailer aims to make it clear that it not only prioritizes local purchasing by making these products easier to find but also promotes items that meet construction codes and standards.

    “We already had a strong offering of Canadian-made products. In fact, less than 10% of our supply comes directly from the United States. The challenge was mainly in how to make these products known to our customers. For consumers to choose Canadian-made products, they need to be properly identified, well-referenced, and effectively showcased. This is where our collaboration with ‘Well Made Here’ is so valuable. Thanks to the close work done with Mr. Darveau and his team over the past few weeks, thousands of additional products have been accredited as ‘Well Made Here,’ responding to the demand to connect consumers with suppliers offering locally made products,” explains J.P. Towner, President and CEO of RONA inc.

    “RONA’s initiative comes at a particularly crucial time: the country is facing an urgent need for construction and renovation while a tariff war with the United States is looming. Our manufacturers need this kind of synergy and visibility now more than ever. Let’s hope that homeowners and construction contractors discover Canadian brands and develop loyalty to them beyond times of crisis,” states Richard Darveau, President and CEO of ‘Well Made Here.’

    RONA is a founding partner of “Well Made Here.”

    To be considered “Well Made Here,” suppliers must confirm that their products meet the following three criteria:

    • Compliance with Canadian construction industry codes, regulations, and any other legal requirements;
    • At least 51% of direct production or manufacturing costs incurred in Canada;
    • The last substantial transformation must have taken place in the country.

    “More than ever, RONA’s legacy—an enterprise founded by independent local merchants—reminds us that great things can be accomplished when we work together. I am proud to see our teams, suppliers, and partners mobilizing during this uncertain time to better showcase locally made products,” adds Mr. Towner.
